How your result is calculated
Net WPM is your word count (characters divided by 5) minus wrong words, divided by minutes. Accuracy is correct words divided by all words. You qualify only when both the speed and the accuracy targets are met.
Numbers, dates and capitalized names such as Hamu count as correct. Other words are checked against a 275,000 word English dictionary, with common endings like -s, -ed and -ing allowed.
Tips to reach 30 WPM
- Put accuracy first. Every wrong word is deducted from your net speed.
- Keep a steady rhythm instead of bursts followed by corrections.
- Look at the screen, not the keys, and keep your wrists relaxed.
- Check the Words to check list after each session and drill those words.
- Practice a little every day. Read more in our typing speed guide.
